Designing a New Roof for Pittsburgh Weather
A new roof is your best chance to build it right from the deck up. Pittsburgh winters bring snow, ice at the eaves and constant freeze and thaw cycles, and summer brings wind and heavy rain. We plan for all of it before the first bundle goes up.
That means ice and water shield where ice and runoff collect, ventilation sized for the space below, and the right material for the slope. Very low slopes on porches and additions need a membrane instead of shingles. In Observatory Hill, Glenshaw and Mt. Washington we paired Atlas shingles on the main roof with MuleHide low slope systems on the flat sections.
