How long do asphalt shingles last in Pittsburgh?
The number on a shingle package is a warranty term, not a promise of lifespan. What does an asphalt shingle roof cost in Pittsburgh?

What is the difference between architectural and 3 tab shingles?
Architectural shingles are thicker and built from laminated layers, which gives them a dimensional look and better wind resistance. 3 tab shingles are a single flat layer with a uniform pattern. What is Scotchgard algae protection?
The black streaks you see on many shingle roofs are algae, and they show up first on shaded or north facing slopes that stay damp. Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles include Scotchgard Protector, which resists that algae so your roof keeps its color.
Can you install new shingles over my old roof?
We recommend a full tear off. Removing the old layers lets us inspect and replace damaged decking, install ice and water shield, new underlayment and flashing, and keep your manufacturer warranty intact. A second layer of shingles can hide soft decking and leaks that keep getting worse underneath.
How long does it take to install a shingle roof?
Many of our asphalt shingle roofs are finished in a single day. Larger or more complex roofs, or roofs that need decking replaced, can take a few days. We clean up and sweep the yard for nails before we leave, and we send photo updates as the work moves along.
Can you install asphalt shingles in winter?
Yes. Late spring through fall offers the most reliable weather for shingles to seal, but we work all winter when conditions allow. If your roof is leaking in January, you don't have to wait for spring.
What are the signs a shingle roof needs replacing?
Widespread curling or missing shingles, heavy granule loss in the gutters, repeated leaks, soft spots in the decking or a roof around 20 years old usually mean replacement is the better investment. See our roof replacement service for how the process works.
Can you repair my shingle roof instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. Missing or lifted shingles, a leak at one vent or small storm damage can usually be repaired. We match the type, style and color of your shingles as closely as possible, though on an older roof new pieces may look slightly different at first.
