New roof, Hardie siding, soffit and gutters by Malick Brothers Exteriors in Ross Township
August 4, 2023

If you are searching for vinyl siding in Pittsburgh, you will find plenty of pages that name one company and stop there. This page is different. We are Malick Brothers Exteriors, a family owned exterior contractor in West View, and we do siding installation in Pittsburgh and across the North Hills. We put ourselves first on this list because we believe our work earns it, and then we named nine other Pittsburgh siding companies with only the facts we could verify: where they are based, what siding they install, which manufacturer programs they belong to, and their Google rating on the day we checked.

We rebuilt this list for 2026. Companies from our older version whose current siding work we could not confirm are gone, and several siding specialists have been added.

How we chose these Pittsburgh siding contractors

Every company below had to meet the same tests:

  • A physical office in the Pittsburgh area, not a lead marketplace or a call center.
  • Siding listed as a real service on the company's own website, with named products.
  • Facts we could confirm on October 5, 2026 from the company website, its Google Business Profile or a public record.

Google ratings and review counts change every day. The numbers here are what Google showed on October 5, 2026. Where we did not have a current number, we left it out instead of guessing.

Vinyl siding or James Hardie: which suits a Pittsburgh house?

Most siding contractors in Pittsburgh offer both, and the right answer depends on the house.

Dark siding installed by Malick Brothers Exteriors on the upper story of a brick Pittsburgh area home
Siding we installed on the upper story of a brick home in the Pittsburgh area. Many local houses are brick below and siding above.

Vinyl siding is the most common choice here. It never needs paint, it does not rot, and it is the lower cost option of the two. Better lines such as Mastic Quest use a thicker panel and a stronger locking edge, which helps the wall stay flat and resist wind. Vinyl expands and contracts as the temperature changes, and Pittsburgh swings from single digits in January to the nineties in July. That is why installation matters so much: panels have to be hung so they can move, not nailed tight. The Vinyl Siding Institute publishes the installation standards and certifies both products and installers.

James Hardie fiber cement is a cement based plank that is thicker and more rigid than vinyl. It does not melt or burn, it holds deep color well with the factory finish, and it has the shadow lines of wood. It costs more to buy and takes longer to install. You can see the product lines on the James Hardie website.

Many Pittsburgh homes are part brick, with siding only on gables, dormers, additions or the second story. On those houses the siding area is small, so upgrading the material changes the total less than people expect.

What a complete siding job includes

The back of a home we sided with James Hardie in Monterey Taupe in November 2025, with a new roof above it.

When you compare estimates from siding contractors, check that each one covers the same scope. A complete job should include:

  1. Removal of the old siding and disposal, not a layer over the top unless you agreed to that.
  2. Inspection of the sheathing, with rotted wood replaced before anything is covered.
  3. House wrap or another water resistive barrier, taped at the seams.
  4. Flashing at windows, doors, roof lines and where siding meets brick.
  5. New siding with the correct starter, corner posts and J channel or trim boards.
  6. Soffit and fascia, either wrapped in new metal or replaced.
  7. Gutters and downspouts taken down and put back, or replaced.

Older homes in Bellevue, West View and the city neighborhoods often hide surprises under aluminum or asbestos cement siding, including missing sheathing and old wood clapboard. A good estimate says how that will be handled if it is found.

Siding, soffit, fascia and gutters meet at the eave, so it often makes sense to do them together. If your gutters are near the end of their life, ask about new seamless gutters while the crew is already there.

How to check a siding contractor before you sign

  • Look up the PA HIC number. Home improvement contractors in Pennsylvania must register with the Attorney General. Search the number on the PA Attorney General HIC lookup and confirm the name matches. Ours is PA174918.
  • Ask for a certificate of insurance sent by the insurer or agent, showing general liability and workers compensation.
  • Ask which product line is in the estimate. "Vinyl siding" is not specific enough. You want the manufacturer, the line and the color in writing.
  • Ask for recent local jobs you can drive past. A contractor who works in your area can name streets.
  • Read the lower rated reviews and see how the owner responded.
  • Get the warranty in writing, both the manufacturer warranty on the product and the contractor's workmanship warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Who is a reputable siding installation contractor in Pittsburgh, PA?

Any of the ten companies on this page is a reasonable place to start, because each has a local office, a public track record and named siding products. Whoever you call, confirm the PA HIC registration, ask for proof of insurance and get the product line in writing. We are glad to be one of your estimates if you live in Pittsburgh or the North Hills.

What drives the cost of a vinyl siding job?

The main factors are the wall area, the number of stories, how many windows, corners and gables the crew has to trim around, the product line you choose, whether old siding has to be removed, and how much sheathing repair is needed. Soffit, fascia and gutter work add to the total. That is why we give a free written estimate after measuring the house instead of quoting by phone.

What is the downside of vinyl siding?

Vinyl can crack from a hard impact in very cold weather, it can warp from concentrated heat such as a grill placed too close, and thin panels can look wavy on an uneven wall. Dark colors need a line made to hold them. Most complaints trace back to installation, such as panels nailed too tight to move, so the installer matters as much as the product.

What is the most affordable way to replace my existing siding?

Standard vinyl in a common color is usually the lowest cost material. You can also control cost by keeping sound soffit and fascia, or by replacing siding one elevation at a time if only one side is failing. We do not recommend skipping house wrap or flashing to save money, because water damage behind the wall costs far more later. Financing is available if you prefer to spread the cost.
